Dr. Mani Akhtari spent some of his formative years in El Paso, TX, where he attended Franklin High School. He decided to continue his education in Texas and enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin. He majored in Biology, having been fascinated by the processes that regulate life. He graduated Magna cum laude in 2007 and decided to enroll at the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine to continue his scientific curiosity as well as to be a helping hand to those in need.

During medical school, Dr. Akhtari was selected for and completed the highly competitive Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Fellowship. He worked in the laboratory of Dr. Alan Tall at Columbia University, exploring how cholesterol metabolism can affect proliferation of stem cells. It was this research that first peaked his curiosity about unregulated proliferation and its implications, including the field of Oncology.

After graduating from medical school in 2012, Dr. Akhtari decided to specialize in Radiation Oncology, a rapidly advancing field which would allow him to combine his technical expertise, his basic scientific knowledge, and his desire to care for cancer patients. He completed his residency at University of Texas Medical Branch, while also rotating at Houston Methodist Hospital and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Throughout his training and career, Dr. Akhtari has authored numerous original scientific research articles that have led to significant advancements regarding the field of oncology. He has also published book chapters and presented his findings at international scientific meetings. He continues to be involved with the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).

Dr. Akhtari currently practices at Texas Oncology, Fort Worth Location. He is passionate about using innovative new radiation therapy techniques to deliver patient centered cancer care. He treats all sites including head & neck cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, lymphomas, sarcomas, brain tumors, lung cancer, gynecologic cancers, thyroid cancer, prostate cancer, and skin cancer amongst others. He is an expert in all modern and advanced radiation techniques including Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Stereotactic Ablative Radiation Therapy (SABR or SBRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), brachytherapy, 3D conformal therapy, and electron therapy. Dr. Akhtari is an American Board of Radiology-certified radiation oncologist and sees patients at Texas Oncology-Fort Worth Cancer Center.
